“The Boys and Girls Clubs of Tucson is thrilled for the second year in a row, to host the locations for the 2011 immunization clinics. In 2010 nearly 1,400 children received vaccinations, 324 kids received dental screenings, and 150 booster seats were given out, and 250 kids received free club memberships. The Boys and Girls Clubs serves at-risk youth in our community by providing them with quality programming and a safe and nurturing place to go after-school and on weekends, and caring professional staff to help them realize their future potential. Helping to provide the community with free back-to-school immunizations is a natural extension of our outreach to at-risk youth and families in the community”, says Armando Rios, CEO of The Boys and Girls Clubs of Tucson.
According to Brenda Goldsmith, Executive Director for the El Rio Health Center Foundation, “The number of families with no insurance in our community is growing and it is easy for parents of school age kids to get caught off guard when enrolling students at school. Many times parents forget new immunizations are require until they are notified by the school nurse at registration. We want to help the community be proactive and prepared.”
Back again this year will be fun activities for the kids, free immunizations and dental screenings with fluoride varnish treatments, and free Boys and Girls Clubs of Tucson memberships.
