Tucson Police Department sponsoring a summer youth swim program | Families

The Tucson Police Department will be sponsoring a 2012 summer youth swim program, in conjunction with City of Tucson Parks and Recreation Department, in the hopes of helping to reduce water related deaths in Tucson.
There are nearly 300 drowning deaths of children under the age of 5, nationwide every year. Tucson Police Department is hoping to eliminate any of these type deaths in Tucson, by providing assistance and the life-saving skills through swim lessons. TPD hopes to provide assistance to nearly 4,800 Tucson youths, with this swim program. The police department has set aside funds from RICO (Racketeer Influenced Corrupt Organizations) which is money seized by law enforcement from any criminal activity associated with illegal drugs, to help fund this project.
Registration for this program begins April 21. You can register on line at http://ezeereg.com/Activities and click on the summer swim lessons. There will be 2,400 spots open from June 4-29 (broken up into two, two-week periods). There will be 2,400 spots for the second session will from July 3-27 (also two, two-week periods). Vouchers for these classes will be provided by Tucson Police Department, who will also supply goggles, towels and carrying bags for participants. The swim sessions will take place at various city pools throughout Tucson.
