Diamondbacks Street Team at Los Amigos for STEM family night | Events
Los Amigos Technology Academy will be hosting a family night - 'Take Me Out to the Ballgame' for their summer program students and their families.
This family night is in conjunction with the 21st Century Community Learning Center grant and its Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) partnership with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Diamondback Street team will be on hand to join in the math-based baseball activities, like estimating how long it takes to run the bases, calculating hitting statistics, Wii baseball and helping creat team jerseys.
WHEN: June 7 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
WHERE: Los Amigos Technology Academy (2200 E. Drexel Road, between Campbell and Tucson Blvd)
To make all of this possible Los Amigos received an Arizona Department of Education (ADE) grant, sponsored by the Arizona Diamondbacks, to support their STEM activities in their summer school program. This grant also makes possible a trip for some 200 students and their parents to see an Arizona Diamondbacks game on June 22 in Phoenix, for free.
In another ADE grant from the 21st Century Community Learning Center, Los Amigos received over $127,000 to fund their after shool program - Leopard Spots - as well as other parent engagement activities.
