40-day walking challenge starts off today for La Paloma Academy | Events
In an early morning presentation, Matt Grevers, an Olympic gold medalist and Health E. Hound, the mascot for United Health Care kicked off the World Fit 40-day walking challenge at La Paloma Academy.
The idea of the campaign is to teach the importance of regular activity as part of a healthy lifestyle and to help the children avoid childhood obesity. The challenge is for both students and teachers at the La Paloma Academy, who will create an organized group walk on a measured path or track on campus, every day. This might be a challenge for some, as the participants have to walk every day for six weeks.
Students will log their miles on the World Fit website to compete for the fittest school in their community, state and across the nation. Each school is paired with a local Olympian or Paralympian.
Both Matt Grevers and Health E. Hound helped jump start the La Paloma crew, by leading them on their first walk of the challenge.
