Local leaders talk teen jobs

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now)- Remember that first job?  It was a big part of growing up and today
local leaders want to help teens get started in the work force this summer.

Whether it was working at the
mall or a restaurant, these early jobs started to teach the young employees important
skills and about hard work.

That is why today city leaders
are turning to employers, asking them to take a look at their needs for this
summer, and to consider hiring teens for positions they may have.

While the job market is tough on
all, it has been rough on young people especially.  The unemployment rate among teens nationally
stands at 24.2 percent.

At the event today Mayor
Rothschild will be joined by United Way and Pima One Stop in discussing job
opportunities for local teens.  Both of
these groups have summer youth programs helping teens get started in the work
force.
